Advanced Ministerial Development

Advanced Ministerial Development (AMD) is built around the mentoring relationship between a ministry context mentor and an individual seminarian in area churches or community ministry settings. It fosters the formation of ministry practitioners who are intentional about theological reflection to create insightful religious practice. Two credits are required for the MDiv program.

All MDiv students must register for PATH 560 Advanced Ministerial Development. This course extends across two semesters and may begin at any point in the Seminary experience.

AMD provides MDiv students with opportunities to:

  • Clarify the nature of their calling.
  • Develop ministry competencies with the guidance of a field mentor.
  • Apply the NAD Ministerial Core Qualities of an effective pastor defining both areas of strength and areas of growth.
  • Gain experience in exercising the Spiritual Gifts in a pastoral setting.

SDA Pastors serving near Berrien Springs, MI who wish to become AMD Mentors or MDiv students at the SDA Theological Seminary who would like to learn more or begin their AMD journey, are invited to meet with Dr. Heather Crews .
