A coach doesn’t tell the other person what to do. A coach helps the person discover what God is calling him or her to do, helpsthe individual think through how to do it, helps him or her form action plans to accomplish it, and holds him or her accountable for completing the action plans to reach the goal.
Learn the basics of how to—
Relate Build relationship and agenda
Reflect Look for the issues and work through them
Refocus Determine priorities and action steps
Resource Provide support and encouragement, pray with and for
Review Evaluate progress, celebrate the wins, revise plans as needed
In addition, you will recognize your dependence on the Holy Spirit in coaching and in ministry, because coaching is not scripted. The Holy Spirit must be allowed to work through the coaching relationship if that relationship is to accomplish God’s will.
At SEEDS’ Coaching Track you will—
Listen and learn about coaching
Observe an unrehearsed coaching session
Experience coaching others and being coached

▪ "Taught me the importance of helping others discover God’s agenda for themselves
▪ Reminded me not to be the answer person
▪ Triads [coaching in groups of three] were amazingly helpful and inspiring”
“This coaching seminar woke me up! . . . As I felt the joy of having three people coach me during the seminar, experiencing self-discovery in what I need to do to move forward, I saw how valuable a friend can be who is simply available to listen with some interested questions. This seminar will have great impact on my role as a consultant to church plants, the church plant meeting in my house, and in my role as husband and father. I’m excited.”
“This seminar. . . has totally changed my way of thinking . . . realizing that there is a big difference between mentoring and coaching.”
“This conference has strengthened my confidence in my ability to help others.”
“This seminar has helped me see that instead of imposing myself onto people’s issues, I now realize that I should invite them to share and to come up with their own solutions.”
“The coaching class . . . has exceeded my expectations! I have learned how to better listen and truly hear. I have also learned what types of questions to ask to draw the answers out of the other person, rather than just telling them what I think. Thank you for shifting my paradigm!”
“This new insight in coach training has taken a lot of burden off me. With this new perspective, I can now relax and let the Holy Spirit guide the process of helping others to discover and determine God’s agenda for their lives.”
